Mack Phillips (Sam Worthington) has come a long way since the troubled days of his youth. He’s living the American Dream – the proud head of one big happy family, with a beautiful wife, Nan (Rhada Mitchell), and three amazing children.
But it’s all about to fall apart in a horrific turn of events that go beyond Mack’s worst nightmares.
During a family camping trip, his two older children Kate (Megan Charpentier) and Josh (Gage Munroe) find themselves in danger while out on the lake in a canoe. Mack is able to reach them just in time, and the three reach the shore safely. However, in the midst of the chaos, his youngest daughter, Missy (Amélie Eve), disappears.
Panic leads to complete despair when the search comes to an end in a cabin in the woods, where they discover Missy’s terrible fate.
Now a broken man, Mick begins to slip into darkness. Just when he’s about to give up, a mysterious letter arrives in his mailbox signed from ‘Papa’, the name Missy used to call God.
The letter invites him to visit the very cabin where his life fell apart. With nothing to lose, Mick decides to go. He meets Papa (Octavia Spencer) and two other people, and so begins a spiritual journey in a quest to find his way back to being able to live again.
Stuart Hazeldine (Exam) directs this drama, which is based on William P. Young’s novel of the same name.
